Vive le... Quebec LIBRE!

JACMUN 2025’s Specialized Agency Committee I will be “Québec Libre!” This committee will explore Quebec’s nationalist movements since the 1960s Quiet Revolution, reflecting the belief in Quebec as a distinct society with its own culture, language, and identity. Despite referendums in 1980 and 1995 affirming Quebec’s place in Canada, debates on Quebecois identity, language preservation, and sovereignty remain active and relevant.

During this conference, delegates will have the opportunity to explore the multifaceted future of Quebec in light of an impending referendum that presents three critical and potentially transformative options: maintaining its status within Canada, pursuing full independence, or even considering alignment with another nation.

Discussions will cover key topics to understand possible paths forward, such as the economic impact of each option—including trade relations, a potential new currency, and local business viability—as well as resource management for Quebec’s unique needs.

In addition, the committee will discuss Quebec’s potential on the global stage, considering how an independent Quebec might gain international recognition and what this shift would mean for its relationships with other nations. Military concerns will also be addressed, as delegates explore how Quebec could ensure security and protect its interests as an independent entity.

Join us for this in-depth exploration of Quebec’s future!
