GENERAL ASSEMBLY

RESTORING INTEGRITY: COMBATING COURRUPTION IN GLOBAL GOVERNANCE

JACMUN 2025’s General Assembly II theme will be “Restoring Integrity: Combating Corruption in Global Governance.” This crucial committee will focus on the widespread and insidious issue of corruption within key international institutions such as the United Nations, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Scandals involving bribery, mismanagement, embezzlement, and other forms of corruption have severely undermined public trust, diverted critical resources from essential development efforts, and hindered progress towards global goals. By addressing these issues, the committee aims to restore confidence in these institutions and ensure that they can effectively fulfill their mandates in the pursuit of global peace, security, and sustainable development.

Delegates in this committee will engage in rigorous debates on how corruption stifles global progress, distorts democratic governance, and exacerbates inequality both within and between nations. They will examine how corrupt practices not only divert much-needed funds from humanitarian and development projects but also erode the legitimacy of international institutions, thereby threatening their ability to mediate conflicts, provide aid, and promote human rights.

Debates will focus on exploring practical and actionable solutions to combat corruption and strengthen the integrity of global governance structures. Key topics for discussion will include implementing comprehensive institutional reforms to promote transparency and accountability, enforcing sanctions on corrupt entities and individuals, and designing international frameworks for better monitoring and enforcement of anti-corruption measures. Delegates will also explore how technology can play a pivotal role in both combating corruption and enhancing transparency. The increasing digitalization of global governance offers both opportunities and challenges: while technological tools can streamline decision-making and provide powerful means of oversight, they can also be exploited to facilitate corruption. As such, delegates will examine how new technologies, such as blockchain and AI-driven audit systems, can be leveraged to create safer, more effective mechanisms for reporting corruption, conducting investigations, and ensuring accountability at every level.

This committee offers a vital opportunity to generate concrete strategies that restore public faith in international institutions and ensure that they remain accountable to the people they serve. Through rigorous, solutions-oriented dialogue, delegates will work towards creating a framework for more transparent, ethical, and effective global governance. Join us in this important discussion, where your ideas and contributions could help reshape the future of global governance, reinforcing the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability for generations to come. Together, we can pave the way for a more just and equitable world.
